Yup, that is what we in the ‘oil world’ call lavender essential oil, a Swiss Army knife. Lavender is one of the most versatile oils in the oil arsenal. A little history lesson on lavender. Back in the early 1900’s, René-Maurice Gattefossé, a French scientist, used lavender on his burnt skin when there was an explosion in his lab. He found that it promoted tissue regeneration and sped up the healing time. That is pretty amazing!
Today, lavender is used in my house for everything from burns, allergies, relaxing my kids, rashes, after bath baby massages, sunburns . . . .you name it! My favorite thing right now is this hair tonic I made for Christmas presents for both of our moms. I decided to make an extra one for myself. My hair is so much easier to deal with and I don’t feel the need to pull it up as much because it isn’t straggly anymore! Side effect: by spraying everyday, my psoriasis hasn’t been as itchy! WOO HOO!
Here is what I added to the glass spray bottle: 15 drops lavender, 10 drops lemon, 10 drops cedarwood with 1 oz witch hazel and 4 oz of distilled water. Shake it up, spray it on wet hair, and style as normal. Plus it costs you about $2.
I have also rubbed straight lavender on bug bites and with a little coconut oil on sunburns. It is a fabulous burn reliever! I am actually drifting off to sleep in my bed because I have lavender and cedarwood crankin’ out of the diffuser.
