Hey y’all! We had another Second Saturday meeting! This one was all about your face and it was awesome! Because I mean who wouldn’t want to know how to make their own beauty products to make their face just shine?!?!
So let’s face it! Haha. But seriously essential oils are great for your skin’s health and yes, problem areas. A few that I use on a normal basis are orange, frankincense, melrose, and lavender.
Orange is great for your skin! It can promote the production of collagen as well as increase the blood flow to the skin. It is helpful at soothing dry, irritated skin as well as acne-prone skin. But the one problem with orange oil, as with all citrus oil, it is photosensitive so it needs to be used 12 – 24 hours before sun exposure. Since I work in an office during the week it works but on the weekend I have to swap it out.
Frankincense . . . ahhhh Frank. It is my BFF. I love it. I would bathe in frankincense if it weren’t so freaking expensive. This oil has anti-aging properties which means reduces sun spots, smooth wrinkles, tones and tightens skin and helps to replace old cells with new ones, which is great for my dry skin people! HELLO!?!? I mean there was a reason the Egyptians were all about it. Plus it helps with relaxation and I am totally down with relaxing!!
Melrose and lavender are for my yuckie patch of psoriasis on the back of my neck. I just started this process so the results are still to come. Melrose can also be used for spot treatments on those little breakouts. Purification is another oil great for random breakouts but I like Melrose so much better, I like the smell better.
The first recipe that we made was a honey cinnamon scrub. And it is seriously as easy as going to your pantry and grabbing some really good honey and some ground cinnamon. Mix up 2 Tablespoons of honey and 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon then a drop of whatever oil you would like, I use orange because and here is the secret. . . I lick my fingers. Holy lord is it GOOD. (Don’t laugh, ok laugh, I really don’t care.)
The next recipe was one that I found via Jenni Raincloud, an Eye Firming Serum. While I am not happy to admit it, I need this. I just wish I had found it sooner as I loath to spend money on ridiculous lotions for wrinkles. I mean seriously $70+ for an ounce of cream? No thanks. I will love my wrinkles. But this cost me less than $10 and I have the supplies to continue making it for the rest of the year, never getting anywhere near that eye cream price tag. So in yo face. . . or on it. Hee hee. Plus this recipe calls for coffee and I love my coffee. So sip some coffee and put some in your serum and just have a coffee-licious morning.
Here’s the recipe:
1.5 TBSP. Aloe Vera Gel
1 tsp. Strongly brewed coffee
1 tsp. Witch Hazel
2 drops Cypress Essential Oil
Ok all that silliness means it is bed time. Hope you enjoy these little facial tidbits. I think in the morning I am going to whip up some quinoa waffles and drizzle some of the honey mask on them. Doesn’t that sound GREAT?!?
